In the beginning of the Spring the little pair of Doves tried on two occasions to build a nest unsuccessfully with the wind blowing it down and breaking their eggs. I decided it was time to help them. As you can see I put some tape on the ledge and then put all the sticks back up, hoping the tape would keep the nest secure. I also padded it with some cotton balls. (On the right you can see one of the cotton balls) The little pair didn't like my decorating and took out the cotton balls.
This is a narrow slick ledge where they built their home, but the tape held the nest even in one of the most violent storms we've had here in a long time. I know it was more than the tape...God does answer prayer even for little birds...how much more for you and I. HE does keep us SAFE through the Storm...when we run into the shelter under the wings of the ALL MIGHTY.
I loved these little birds...and I know GOD does too... He kept them SAFE in the Storm!
The following night there was another storm. This time when I looked out the front door to check on my little feathered family, they were not in the nest. I ran out into the rain to try to find them...thinking perhaps they were on the ground somewhere. It was dark and I couldn't find them. As I turned to go back into the house, I looked up and there on the other side of the porch on the ledge was the 3 little birds. I knew if the wind picked up they would not be able to hold on to that slick ledge.
Through my window I watched them for sometime and sure enough...the wind blew them out into the darkness. I quickly got my big flash light and went out into the storm looking for them to no avail. They seemed to have vanished. Then walking back onto the porch...there was the little boy. I took some cushions and made a barricade to protect him from the strong winds. I cried and prayed that God would help the little family. I didn't sleep most of the night...continuing to check on them to see if the mother and sister had returned.
Early at 4:00AM checking on them, the little boy was still there alone. About 5:00AM I looked again as my heart dropped, the little boy was gone. Just as I turned to go back into the house, I happened to look into the tree and there the little family had been reunited again. It's almost as if they were waiting for me to see that they were OK...and then in just a few short moments they were gone. God again answered my prayer for the Mother to come back...and to KEEP THEM SAFE IN THE STORM!
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. PSALM 91:4
