My Heart My Home ~ Wanda's Country Home

The holidays are done,

It is quiet once again,

The relatives have gone,

And peace is settling in.

The dog's returned from where he went,

The cat has crawled out, too,

The canary's singing songs again,

And I've uncaged the cockatoo.

The books are in the bookcase,

The magazines up off the floor,

The knickknacks back in place,

And finger prints wiped off the door.

The morning paper's still intact,

There's the Sports and Business news,

But, more than that, I can sit back,

And read them both ... clear through.

Now everything's like apple pie,

Just as it ought to be,

I sit here, and I smile and sigh,

At the order that I see.

Everything is organized,

I like things where they belong,

I don't like stuff inside-out,

And I think upside-down is wrong.

But now, it seems, the house has grown,

It seems bigger than before,

It almost doesn't seem like home,

Although order's been restored.

I wonder what the problem is,

(As if I didn't know),

Right ... no noise and no kids,

Where did everybody go?

Peace and quiet's very nice,

And lack of turmoil's swell,

But all of that I'd sacrifice,

Just to hear my front doorbell.

And be greeted by a sticky kiss,

And arms reaching up for hugs,

I know that's what I really miss.

All those signs of love.

So I declare, to heck with the house,

To heck with a quiet, neat place,

I'll opt for noise and chaos,

If it includes a sweet embrace.
